Gonzalo Landaluce was introduced to Total Leadership by Carlos Casanueva. He took on responsibility for publishing the Spanish language version of Total Leadership and, in collaboration with Carlos, he runs our European office. Gonzalo has studied Industrial Engineering, with a Business Organization specialty at the University of Madrid (UPM) and completed a Program for Leadership Development at IESE, Madrid.
Gonzalo began his professional career in the Information Technology sector, beginning in the direct-sales department of Hewlett-Packard, where he was fortunate to have mentors who were masters of “the HP Way” and who taught him that trust and respect are the foundations of inspiring leadership. At Sun Microsystems, he continued on his leadership journey and found that success is the result, not the goal. He joined Veritas Software as the first employee of the startup in Iberia. There he led his team to achieve strong results, with growth rates that made Veritas Iberia the most successful subsidiary in EMEA, just before its acquisition by Symantec.
Once he became the Country Manager of Symantec for Spain and Portugal, he experienced first-hand the challenge of integrating two cultures and two very different teams in turbulent times. As Managing Director of TAS Iberia, he was responsible for designing and executing a turnaround plan for a software company at bankruptcy, which, he is pleased to report, continues to service its clients and employ 40 families! And as Vice President of Sales of Software AG Spain, Gonzalo managed to stop years of falling revenues, working hand in hand with the commercial team and with customers to recover their trust.
During these past twenty-five years, Gonzalo has enjoyed success and established excellent relations with customers and collaborators, and he has also endured challenges, suffered failure, experienced stressful situations. This background gives him a personal appreciation for helping people and organizations to achieve their own goals. He believes we must transcend beyond ourselves toward a higher purpose, have rich connections with each other, and find harmony in our lives.
Convinced that an enterprise culture that takes care of people and creates value for society is viable and stronger in the long run, in 2014 he launched the publishing brand Claves de Gestión to spread real examples of Spanish entrepreneurs and companies. In 2015 his university fellow and friend Carlos Casanueva persuaded him to translate and publish Total Leadership for the Spanish market. As he noted in the Spanish edition prologue, Total Leadership was an important discovery for him, a practical method to implement the leadership model he was dreaming of in a sustainable way. He is very grateful to Professor Stew Friedman for it.
